I hope it is a different game of some type, an RPG maybe, I think that EOJ has a good world and characters to work with other types of game, and its highly possible because its not going to use the camera and cards, if they where to release a different type of game using the EOJ world and characters then the internet and price of EOJ cards could go up again and with boost in interest maybe they will print more cards. and possibly a re-release of the PS3 version could even lead to a new set.

bit then maybe a new set is not a good thing because they have managed to fuck up every new set the have done so far, maybe if they where to attempt a new set the game would become unplayable.
Killershark man, you know how to get people excited, but this is such a speculation that I think it's just a fantasy, don't think it will be such a game, but would surprise me positively if it would be...

This is what i'm thinking.

Sony know that EOJ is a huge hit with players, i mean just look at the limited amount of cards on the market and the prices their going for. Sony weren't making huge amounts of money from the cards, so from their point of view that portion of the game was a failure. So they decide to release the game on the PSP, pushing up sales of the new PSP Go and publishing cards over the PSN through digital booster packs.

Think about it lol, being able to play EOJ on the go.

If this is the case then i will be spending most of the work day playing this in the office.

Re:EOJ on PSP

I wouldn't even mind if it was just a pre-constructed deck concept like Duel of the Planeswalkers for the 360. It would serve as a great catalyst for drawing attention to Eye of Judgment and may bring renewed interest to reviving the game on the PS3. I'm probably being overly optimistic at the point because Eye of Judgment hasn't even been officially announced. If these rumors are true, it had better be a worldwide release rather than a Japanese release. Such exciting news!

EOJ on PSP

@adgori... you can play online anywhere you can get a wifi connection. If you register your psp with your ps3, you can use 'remote play' and you can access all the pictures, videos, and music saved on your ps3 hard drive. You can turn on/off the ps3 with the psp via remote play. Some games have psp remote play features (never tried one myself and cannot recall which games actually support this).

I would be interested in this only if I have to purchase the game. If I have to purchase virtual boosters to rebould my collection you can count me out. I spent the money and have the tangible cards to show for it... I don't want to respend the money for digital copies of cards.

Regardless, it's nice to hear Sony is still doing something related to EoJ and has not dropped the game completely.

EOJ is going portable on
the PSP. While it won't be using the PS Eye and actual cards, the team has
been able to fit the core game into the PSP so you can take the experience
on the go. More details to come as the product gets further along but here
are some current info below on our plans-

• Game available on PSP as a PSN download only
• Planned Release 2010
• 1-2 Players
• PSP version contains all PS3 cards + 30 new cards
• Collect cards through beating your opponent
• New cards can be added to the selection
• Exchange cards through wifi ad hoc
• "over 300 cards" to collect
• New cards can be bought in the PS Store

Hope everyone is well and always thanks for your continued support of EOJ!"

Re:EOJ on PSP

Now I feel it all hinges on the balancing that has been done. If they've altered a fair percentage of cards 1-311 then I think the PS3 version is about to be pissed on from a great height. If these additional thirty cards are indeed "patch" cards then there's a possibility. The play testing for these new cards has obviously been undertaken, artwork has been commissioned and 3D models and animations have been created. If the PSP version uses the PS3's core code then I can't see why with a little work the additions couldn't be applied to the PS3 version. I think what we can take away from this is that SONY feels EoJ has a future and programmers are still playing around with the code. At this point anything is possible. With interest in the Playstation Eye being reaffirmed, things look a lot brighter than they did yesterday.

I'm still taken back by the fact that it will include online play. I don't think I could name more than five PSP games with this capability at a push.
The balancing will probably be recosting the existing cards such as spells.
There in lies the problem. If this has indeed been done I can't see them applying the new elements to the PS3 version. They've been very careful thus far to alter very few cards. If they start altering information on a fair percentage of cards things would get very messy as you would end up with a handful of misleading information.

EDIT: In the video, information for cards: Stone Wing Dwarf (39), Flame Magus (1), Hellfire Spitter (2), Freedonian Wanderer (3), Partmole Flame Lizard (4), Firefly Ninja (5) and Dark Yokozuna Sekimaru (44) appear to be unaltered.

I'm sorry but why didn't they just incorporate this into Free Realms so that I would be able to play this awesome updated EoJ game on my computer? Perhaps, it's because there may be an imminent PSP purchase in my future because of a single Eye of Judgment release. I'm really hopelessly addicted to this game. I just bought my friend an Eye of Judgment kit so that he can play with me. Sony really knows how to prey on my collectible card game addiction and drain my wallet. I put my own touch on it, I slow motioned the part where they showed more characters (more cult of mourning? yeah!!) and I zoomed and slow motioned where they showed some of the gameplay and story, since the original video goes by so fast. It would probably be better if this video was on the first page, I refrained from creating a new post SkahT, if you want the code for posting the video on your post of the messageboard, let me know.

I've also attached stills of the 15 images of the characters.

I really hope at some point they intergrate this with the PS3 version.
Re:EOJ on PSP

I'm guessing that this won't involve buying digital booster packs because you can win cards by beating your opponents. I think this means it is following the usual video game collectible card game formula of adding new cards to your digital collection upon completion of a match. It doesn't matter if you are playing a live opponent or against the computer, and the loser of the match does not lose any cards. This is the typical setup of video game versions of collectible card games (Magic Online is an exception to this, not the norm).

As far as the "buy new cards from PSN" capability, I think that refers to the ability for Sony to create downloadable expansions similar to what was done on the PS3 version, only on the PSP version you would not have to buy new packs of cards after paying for the expansion download. Instead, you would buy the expansion download and those expansion cards would be added to the list of cards that you could potentially win by playing matches. This is all conjecture on my part, since I haven't seen any further details since the initial announcement, but this would be the preferred arrangement for me. The cost would be closer to a typical video game rather than a physical collectible card game, which would encourage more people to buy in, and as long as there is no ante rule, more people will be encouraged to play online (I know that some people would be scared off of playing online if an ante rule was enforced). New expansions would be similar, priced closer to a video game expansion rather than a physical card game expansion, making it easier for players to keep up with the latest.

Someone please correct me if you know more than I do, but my understanding is that the only money the devs got from making expansions was the money that was spent on the PSN expansion download (which was why we had to pay for the expansion download in addition to physical cards). If this was the case, then cutting out the physical card portion of Eye of Judgment should mean cutting out the cost of buying physical packs of cards, leaving us only with the cost of the PSN download, which is all the devs were seeing money from anyway. In the end, they get the same money per player that they were seeing before, but cut out the large cost to the players of buying physical cards, which undoubtedly was a hindrance to getting more people on board with the game. This should result in more people buying the game, and since they would earn the same amount per sale as before, Eye of Judgment would end up more profitable. In terms of potential players, it also doesn't hurt that more PSPs have been sold worldwide than PS3s.

Re:EOJ on PSP

This will definitely help with the distribution problems that we saw with Set III - Mostly because there will be no distribution to retailers whatsoever. Moreover, if digital booster packs are implemented, it will be all profit on Sony's part with no initial production costs beyond development and projected memory loads for people's collections online! Memory loads that will probably never exceed a megabyte.

Anyway, on to the PSP EoJ video that regdoogie (Thanks!) posted from Gamescom. I would really love to watch a Pop-up trailer, similar to Gametrailers', noting the major reveals of the released footage. Reveals like the lack of animations, presence of Edin the Persecuted (68), etc. that aren't readily apparent when you watch it the first time through. Unfortunately, I'm too inexperienced and lazy for such an undertaking. Anyway, long live Eye of Judgment!

Fantastic video, thanks regdoggie!

I agree with Pinsona. Sony does this to get rid of the physical distribution of cards (which has given them a lot of badwill). If this expansion sells, I think there is a future for this game. The story mode also looks interesting.

The big question though is if there will be a PS3 expansion as well that make the cam obsolete in ordinary games (but still usable to scan your old cards though). I guess it would be fairly easy to make us use the same kind of control as for the PSP to choose a card and put it in a field.

I always thought there was hope for something else happening with EOJ since they never publicly announced that they had dropped support for it. I'm really happy it's been given this second chance and even had 30 new cards added - that is incredibly exciting. However, I have a very strong suspicion the PS3 version is .... toast. All the card purchases will be for nothing. I don't see card prices going anywhere but down and the PS3 version being left completely obsolete.

I'd be over the moon to hear the contrary, but Pinsona's post above is my guess of the model they'll continue on with.

I've read from a number of sources including Pocket Gamer.co.uk that EoJ PSP utilises the Go!Cam to scan actual cards. Now I don’t buy this as the game would then have increased functionality on PSP3000 models and earlier as no attachment for the Go!Cam exists on the PSP Go! The Go!Cam wasn’t even released in the US from the discussions I’ve come across. Considering EoJ PSP is going to be a downloadable title, taking functionality away from their flagship handheld, that is going to support downloadable titles only, would be barking mad.

Pocket Gamer plans on getting their hands on it today so by the end of the day I'm sure a number of details will become clear.

EDIT: Meh!

If they've balanced the PSP version and added cards as well, the PS3 version is left pointless and obsolete. There will be no reason to collect cards at all. If anything the PSP version will drive people from the PS3 to the PSP to play, not vice versa.

Regarding the PocketGamer comments saying it will use the camera to scan cards, I think they're just mis reporting information. The email sent to all the website managers direct from Sony clearly states they're going to a digital model. Could easily go down as they become obsolete or go up due to the interest surge and people wanting a piece of the original concept

@ msetten: Great idea on thinking already on the PSP members that will be coming into the forum Mark.
I am with NO47 on this matter. I would like to know the production time for this PSP version as it relates to the promotion and release of set 3 for PS3. If the EOJ community is not to receive support then Sony can expect a campaign against them. Don't forget next year will see the launch of PSP EOJ and free realms PS3, as well as at least 1 further PS3 title likely to use a similar approach as free realms (though probably not targeting kids) so if they are expecting financial support through future virtual cards they will not want people pointing out any poor record they may have for card games as far as long term support goes.

So I would say there should be some way to transfer data from the PS3 to the PSP, such as cards that you own that you've scanned on the PS3 and uploading decks you created on the PS3. So that way hopefully you won't have to repurchase original cards. The ability to play EOJ PSP content on the PS3 probably won't be available right away, but as we see it can be a possibility, especially if we're willing to put our support towards EOJ PSP. I mean, how can you resist? *twitch*

However if we get official info on weather or not we can import our PS3 collection into this PSP version it will make or break my willing-ness to buy this game.
I realize that veteran players are in a tough position having invested hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, already in Eye of Judgment. However, I urge you to reconsider because an act of solidarity in boycotting PSP Eye of Judgment will be dismissed as a failure on Eye of Judgment's part rather than Sony's part. In that, if sales on the second release of the Eye of Judgment are dismal, it will simply confirm that the brand is no longer worth supporting anymore. In the overall failures of Sony over the past fiscal year, this will be an insignificant failure at best and the only regret Sony will have will be having given Eye of Judgment a second chance. I say if you enjoy Eye of Judgment, you should purchase the game to boost the sales number in the Eye of Judgment name without the obligation of purchasing your collection again. If there is a great disparity between units of PSP Eye of Judgment sold and digital card sales, Sony will probably reconsider their position on card pricing strategy and availability then.

On the topic of card transfers to the PSP version from your PS3 - It will be difficult seeing that the cards themselves may be easily replicated. I, myself, would probably end up trading, scanning them in and re-trading, so I could complete my digital collection at little or no cost. If I am willing to consider this plan, I'm sure others are willing to go to much greater lengths to the detriment of Sony and the community.
Just keep in mind what Sony has done for US over the last 2 Years........
True, it is a product of Sony and they are responsible for maintaining the quality of their product. It seems that after Set II, their interest in continuing the franchise fell off the deep end. Why they never balanced the cards in Set III baffles me, but I digress. There was the Dioskuri (311) Promo event and several tournaments endorsed or arranged by Sony at the beginning of Eye of Judgment's release. This is more than I can say with many of the games available through the Playstation Network where Sony is only responsible for the servers for the product and nothing more. Although, I am not entirely happy with the services Sony has provided for the Eye of Judgment franchise, I can see that in some respects, it has received special attention. Just my two cents.

One thing I've learned is that SCEA is not about giving any one site an exclusive. So if we do get more details it will likely be in the form of another mass mail to all Official EOJ sites.

As soon as I read about the PSP version I immediately sent a mail to our contact asking about it. An hour and a half later he sent out that mail that eojcollectors posted on the second page.

I presume it's done in the interest of fairness to all the sites, but it would be nice to get some exclusive content sometime

EOJ on PSP

*Wild speculation alert*
It would be great to hear that after the launch of the PSP game, Sony will be adding a new series to the PS3 EoJ game. This could be accompanied by a release of the game which would include the Biolith Rebellion Sets 1-3 and the new series set 1 on the disc.
The cards could be re-printed (with patched card text on things like Zealots, Battleship, ect. The cards would need something marking them as a reprint, so first print cards would still hold collectible value but more players could get the reprints. Would be nice to keep the physical cards for the PS3 version IMO.

One can hope, but IMO doubtful...

And on another note, finally a PSP game to get excited about!! Woohoo!

Re:EOJ on PSP
Its official everyone. Just received this from Sony:

"Hi EOJ Friends,

It's been a while since we all chatted, but wanted to give you the scoop
the latest news being announced in Europe today. EOJ is going portable on
the PSP. While it won't be using the PS Eye and actual cards, the team has
been able to fit the core game into the PSP so you can take the experience
on the go. More details to come as the product gets further along but here
are some current info below on our plans-

• Game available on PSP as a PSN download only
• Planned Release 2010
• 1-2 Players
• PSP version contains all PS3 cards + 30 new cards
• Collect cards through beating your opponent
• New cards can be added to the selection
• Exchange cards through wifi ad hoc
• "over 300 cards" to collect
• New cards can be bought in the PS Store

Hope everyone is well and always thanks for your continued support of EOJ!"
heres my idea of how the PSP game will be.

Imagen yu-gi-oh on the PSP, well actually don't : P
I think It will be all digital, no scanning cards through or imported via the ps3.
because trading cards with friends via ad hoc will make you lose your digital version you achieved by beating opponents.
losing your digital version would make this an actual "trade".
it would be absolute if you could easily keep reimporting the cards via the ps3, that would kill the whole trading idea now wouldn't it?

also I don't think you would have to pay again for the digital form of the 311 excising cards out today.
"PSP version contains all PS3 cards + 30 new cards" why do I believe you wouldn't have to pay for the digital form?
cause you have to "Collect cards through beating your opponent"
it would be kind of strange imo to buy the PSP EOJ, and beat an opponent to only find out you have to pay for the card first before you actually have it?(digital form)
I am not sure what to believe about the 30 new cards, there could be a skeem for them.
though as I understand those are included when you have purchased the PSP EOJ.

the "PSP version contains all PS3 cards + 30 new cards" & "Collect cards through beating your opponent" go against the "New cards can be added to the selection" & "New cards can be bought in the PS Store"(Virtual boosters or virtual singles is unknown)
not very clear.

do you need to get some sort of code to unlock a card when you have bought/pulled them?

being able to play online.
I saw a ranked ladder in the video and "ad hoc" being mentioned.
but there are like 5 psp games out today that got this function the rest is all ad hoc (close range friend play)
I don't think the PSP-EOJ will include online play, eventho the hand-held is capable off doing just that.
I believe it would make the ps3 version unnecessary otherwise.

About the PS3 EOJ.
I am doubting between "if sony will automatically update the PSP content onto the PS3 -EOJ sometime after the PSP release" or "if sony will let it depend on the selling rates of the PSP EOJ in order to see if it is achievable within their marketing budget/skeem to update the PS3-EOJ with the PSP-EOJ content.

for one, sony has been very supportive on mixing the ps3 with the psp with its remote-play. I expect a little feature to be implanted as default.
but yeh who knows,

Eitherway I don't get why some of you are being negative about this.
considering in boycotting PSP Eye of Judgment out of an solidarity act?
really? I understand why but fuck, if sony would listen to this (which they don't) it would be for the next game.
not anything for PS3-EOJ today besides killing the actual second chance we got now with the release of this game.
every existing EOJ player that owns a PSP should get this game IMO.
if you have spend 1500, euros, dollars, ponds for the game and cards already what is an extra 30e for a chance on getting a content update for the PS3?
not to speak of the 30 new cards and story line you will be able to play on the PSP

when sony does update the PS3 EOJ.
I hope it will be a mix of how the game is being played now with the camera only then with the add of digital like the PSP.
so it comes down to the player whenever he wants(middle of a game) to either lay down a card, or just use the gamepad.
for the 30 new cards it would become essential to use the gamepad ofcourse.
the production of these cards is something that went way wrong.
I can't see that happening again for EOJ besides a few promos to give away. : )
though one can only Hope..

Re:EOJ on PSP

I don't think that they are going to use a model of buying digital boosters. In addition to the reasons I mentioned earlier, how would you have a balanced story mode coexist with a pay-for-digitial-booster-packs model? The only way I can think of would be to keep your story mode collection separate from your multiplayer digital booster cards, but that scenario is ridiculous, because new players would rightly assume that their collection from story mode should be playable in multiplayer as well, and I can imagine that situation being a big turn-off to potential buyers. If you're like me and want cards to be added to your collection in game by playing matches (like almost all other video game versions of physical card games) instead of buying digital booster packs, then don't keep assuming that Sony will use the Magic Online model. If everyone keeps assuming that Sony will use the Magic Online model, Sony may decide to make your assumptions a reality, even if that model wasn't in their original plan. If given the choice between paying for digital boosters or adding to your collection by playing the game, I think everyone would prefer the latter.

If they do follow the model of adding new cards to your collection through playing the game, then the possibility of being able to import at least some of your physical card collection through PS3 connectivity seems more feasible, since the individual PSP version cards would not have a monetary value associated with them (Sony would not lose any money by allowing importation). It would be a similar situation to the code system that was used in the Yu-Gi-Oh Game Boy Advance games. In those games, you could enter a code found on physical cards and the game would add one copy of that card to your collection in game. Konami had no concern financially over what cards you had in your in game collection, so they didn't lose any potential sales by adding this feature, but it was appreciated by people who owned the physical cards and wanted to use their favorites in the video game version. I could see a similar method working here, where PS3 owners could connect the PSP game to their PS3 and import their PS3 collection into the game. To avoid balancing problems in story mode, perhaps this connectivity would only be enabled after you beat story mode, or enabled on a limited basis (beat so many opponents, import X number of cards from your PS3 collection into the PSP game). Allowing some kind of importation would be a nice way to thank the PS3 EoJ players, and it sounds like it would also encourage a few more PS3 players to purchase the PSP version.

For the rumors of using the PSP camera to scan your cards, I first noticed this on Joystiq's post announcing EoJ PSP. They were wondering if you would be able to use the PSP camera to scan in your physical cards, but commenters there took it to mean that you definitely would be using the camera, and then other sites that picked up the news treated that idea as fact, when it was really only brought up in conjecture. While no official source as far as I can tell has mentioned using the PSP camera, and there are logical reasons why it would not be used (it has not been released in the US, and apparently does not work with the PSPGo), I could see it being another option for importing cards, but not a requirement. Adding support for the camera would take some development time though, and I'm not sure how many potential buyers of the PSP game a) have physical EoJ cards, b) have a PSP that is compatible with the camera, and c) have the camera. It may be that there are too few people that would potentially use this feature for them to justify spending development time adding camera support.

Sony are money whores. Some cards might be available through play but I am sure they will do what is best in their interest. I would expect them to charge for Digital Boosters as well as the 30 extra cards. I am sure it will not be cheap and buying something you cannot even hold seems like a big waste to me.

Re:EOJ on PSP

Hi everyone. Long time reader & player, first time poster here. Just thought I would weigh in on what is FANTASTIC news.

Something that's bothering me is the amount of negativity coming from some of you regarding the announcement of this game. I've been intrigued by EoJ since I first saw it run in 2007, though only managed to finally afford the PS3 and everything that goes with it a year later, shortly after the advent of Set2. I love this game and the lack of love it has been getting since Set3 had me just as disheartened as most. We all cried out for something more to look forward to, praying that the brand wouldn't die out slowly over time.

We get out wish... And all some of you do is BITCH.

For God's sake! Most of you have been harping for EoJ to be given a second chance for months now!

THIS IS THE SECOND CHANCE!

Yes, I know it's somewhat stinging to realize that the thousands of dollars poured into the card product may end up going to waste with the advent of the PSP version. I realize it will be even more scathing to be forced to possibly buy the content again in a digital format, stifling resale value. But as irritating as these facets are, the PSP is most likely the most cost-efficient model for EoJ to continue. It means no more overheads on card production and distribution and a much more relaxed vice on accessibility for newbies to the franchise; up until recently, you needed a seven-hundred dollar (AU) games console just to get started! That's nigh-on ludicrous for most people! Sony might even actually make some money from it, which is the deciding factor in the support of any product in the world. It's the smartest thing Sony could actually do for us and then some.

If you're stupid enough to boycott the game over something so minor as a digital distribution model (which is what most companies are paving the way for anyway; the success of services like iTunes means that it's here to stay) then you're just throwing away what we've all worked so hard for. If I ever see, meet or greet any EoJ fan who refuses to buy this over these issues, I would gladly smack them one in the gob. Stop with the negativity and buy this game on release date. Otherwise, you are digging the franchise's grave.

LONG LIVE THE EYE OF JUDGMENT!

Re:EOJ on PSP
It means no more overheads on card production and distribution
Technically the card overhead would have been dealt by Wizards and Upper Deck. Not Sony. Sony probably had a contract to make "X" amount which I am sure they fulfilled.

Doing this the PSP way is allowing SONY full control of the profits and sales of these cards. Doing this as digital boosters if that is how they are going to it would mean 100% profit margin in SONY's pockets. If you were a big corporation would you do it any other way? I would like to be as skeptical as many others thinking that you will get the cards for free but I am not. Lets see, Sony charges for Themes even at $0.99 some costing more why would they give you the cards for free when simple things such as a jpeg or whatever format the screens are in. How I see it happening, I am sure they will allow certain cards that are unlockable as freebies as teasers or for the people that do not plan to invest a single penny more into the game after purchasing a the PSP game. But for those that want them all I am sure it will cost a pretty penny.

I've been testing out a game called Warhammer Battle for Atluma on my PSP and was interested to see some similar screens to the screenshots which were released for EOJ.
Re:EOJ on PSP

Well i for one can't wait for this, it will be far more accessible on the psp, especially as it don't require half the floor in my room to play it. A mobile version of EOJ that you can play anywhere, how cool is that. I've now sold all my ps3 eoj game and cards, eoj psp is the future.
