[color=yellow]Selection rounds[/color]
In the selection rounds, we will determine which player will be representing which country. This will be done via tournaments per country. For each country we will create a tournament in the tournaments module to which only players can register that live in that country. The winner of each country tournament will go to the real EOJM World Cup.

If you are the only player of your country, you will be put on a list of 'single player countries'. All players from the 'single player countries' will have to play a separate tournament from which a number of winners will go the real EOJM World Cup. The amount of players from the single player countries that go to the World Cop is based on the number of players we need to fill the group stage of the EOJM World Cup.

[color=yellow]World Cup rounds[/color]
The EOJM World Cup will use a similar scheme as used in the soccer world cup, starting with groups of four players that play all other players in the group. Then the winners and the second place of each group will continue to the next phases, which are single elimination battles where the winners of one group play the second place winner of another group until the finals and the game to determine the third and fourth place winners.

[color=yellow]The prizes[/color]
The grand prize for the first place winner is the Edin Figurine.

Futhermore, there are a lot of prize vault credits to win. Everyone who makes it past the group rounds of the actual World Cup will get one credit. Every additional round that a player wins till the finals, he earns another credit. In the end, the third place get one additional credit, the second place gets two additional credits and the first place gets three additional credits and of course the Edin Figurine.

[color=yellow]The game playing rules[/color]
Deck building rules are the basic EOJ deck buiding rules with standard board layout. All matches between two players in the selection rounds and the group rounds of the World cup consist of two games. Each player is allowed to go first in one of these games. If in a specific country or group more players end up in the first place, an additional game is played to determine the winner. The winner of a country (or group within a country) is the person with the best score, which is decided by number of wins -/- number of losses (non played games are also treated as a loss). If there are more groups within one country, the winners of each group have to play against the winners of the other group(s) to determine the overall winner of that country.

In the elimination rounds, the players play three games. Each player is allowed to go first once in the first two rounds of the game, while in the last round of the game the player that goes first is randomly determined.

[color=yellow]Conflict[/color]
In cases of conflicts, please contact Shadowken, msetten and/or SkahT. They will deal with conflicts and their decisions are final. With regard to disconnects, the person who disconnects looses the game, unless both players agree to replay the game.

That is why their is such a large period in which games can be played in the country selection rounds. This large time period should make it possible to get all games played. If you know that you will be on holiday, announce it early and take action yourself to schedule games before and after your holiday.

With regard to splitting up other countries, that will not happen. The only exception we will make is for the US seeing how much larger that is compared to single European countries and how many members we have that come from the US.

I've bought a large number of set 1 and 2's from around my area and have purchased some set 3's individually from someone else in Canada. They are in very good shape it says and should be arriving.

I'm currently working on building my first deck. I'm thinking of a mixture of wood and flame as the strong suit. Also have a magicians deck coming up which will have quite a few strong spells.

I actually believe it is a fair drawing. It is also sort of random and it was very easy to assign groups that way. By rank would also not be fair and just plain random would be a lot of work for me to do (which I don't have at the moment), so registration date seemed to best solution to me.

I have to agree. In general the more active players are the better players so this looks like it created some unbalanced groups. I would rather play everyone in my country then have groups. I know this sounds like a lot of complaining but what is the point of having a eojm ranking when you don't use it for seeding? shadowken has used it you (msetten) haven't.

Indeed. As only one player will represent a country, whatever seeding method is being used, it shouldn't matter. The best player should be able to come out as the winner. I am not going to change the groups.

I also can't help that the appointment in the rehabilitation centre as last week and next week. They planned it and I didn't hear about the dates until a week before it started. This just means that I have a lot of things to do in this in between week, including several tasks set by the doctors and that gets my priority right now.

The format for each country tournament is fixed, so you cannot just organize it the way you want.

If you look in the Tournament module under Active tournaments and then go to the Italian tournament for the World Cup you see a list of players there. Each player has a group letter assigned to him (A,B or C). You have to play all other players within the group that has to same group letter as you have. So if you are in group B, you have to play games against the other players in group B.

How you contact the other players in your group is up to you. You can do that here, via PSN, e-mail or your own Italian site.

You have to play 2 games against each other player in your group using the standard EOJ deck building rules and the standard board layout. Each player can go first in one of the two games. The results of each match is recorded in the Tournament module, under the the tab Enter Game Results.

Good that you let us know here. My advise: also send them a PM via the site here as that will result in him getting an e-mail notification about it. And I will have proof that I can personally check that you did try to contact them.

The same goes for DJABACUS. Contact the other players by PM via this site so there is proof that you tried to contact them (I know that No47 already replied).

Note that a lot of people forget to check their friends list on the PS3 to see if there are messages. It often happens to me as well. So, it is also better to e-mail or PM them.

The winner of a country (or group within a country) is the person with the best score, which is decided by number of wins -/- number of losses (non played games are also treated as a loss). If all non-played games count as a loss, than the "winners from one group must play all winners from the other group" does that mean the winner(s) of group A must play all the members of group B or must play no one from group B (and all group B players will be eliminated)?

Also, Belial has not responded to a PM from Jun 14th from me and has not signed into the PSN in over 3 weeks. Due to this fact, I do not believe I will be able to finish my matches against him. I am still trying to get matches played with dozens, however, he has not signed into PSN for over 2 weeks. He is responsive to PMs so I will try to get that match played in the next 2 days.

Finally, what happens in a country like Italy where there are groups A,B, and C yet no games have been played? If one person plays another and wins 1 game (only 1 match played) I assume that player moves on to the World Cup tournament?

As to give a heads-up what has been decided after a staff discussion concerning this matter:

Most of you know that Mark has less available time to follow-up on things here due to his rehabilitation.
As such i have been appointed as "interim" tournament manager for all the World Championship parts and the 4-player league.

An extension will be announced for the games that have to be played, and this including the preliminary phase.
However ... i will be having a close look to who has played games and who hasn't. Times logged into the site or
actual proven effort to play/arrange games will be taken into account as to decide who is in and who is out.

I had thought we were going to have 16 players, which would make the perfect number for a simple bracket elimination tournament.

Normally everything is covered in msetten's 1st post in this topic, but in a nutshell.

Initial group stage, you play 2 games against each opponent (could be a tie like in regular Football WC).
Tiebreaker is playing an extra game between players concerned.

Top 2 of each group advance to quarter-finals.

Target-date for group stage ... well ... no fixed date yet. Let's see how quickly everyone registers in the tournament module and starts to play their games.

on 09/09 the tournament was activated, start of group phase
on 14/10 i posted about the zero activity in group D
on 23/10 i specified the deadline for group games of 15/11
on 16/11 still not one game was played in group D, while yet all 4 players have been seen by me on psn regularly over the past months



so ... while knowing this tournament has been in the group phase for over 3 months and having to make some unpleasant tie-breaker decisions in the other groups,
i chose to let people advance from other groups that had actually played and reported games than over someone like yourself who did indeed posted several times in this topic but who did not actually play 1 game.

Not being able to play 1 game over 3 months time with pre-determined opponents just doens't sound right.
I can believe the others in your group were perhaps less eager or flexible to play than yourself, but that does not justify having them take 100% of the blaim.


As to come on topic of the part i quoted from your post, i would advise you to consider it the other way around.
If you would have pm'd me about what attempts you made, when towards who it would have been much easier for me to get a better view of the non-activity in this group.

Good example of people pro-actively communicating to me personally of scheduling games, as well as posting the results from those efforts in the event topic are DJABACUS, drizzle or sjabth to name a few.


In short ... i can understand your frustation, but in all honesty (my personal opinion) this was overall the most fair decision i could make.

i was able to predict what kind of deck my opponent was going to use,
but nevertheless in 2 out of the 3 games the cards fell in a way that i was unable to do anything about it

Those were such a great games...First match (me first) I won it thanks to Orla´s mistake...he forgot about Siam´s -1 on water fields...second game...I had the perfect move to kill a Vengereus with the Biolith Sentry (280)+infestation...but the sentry never worked (f...camara) and lost it...I was crazy about it and couldnt believe it...some clouds change the lighting here....third and final match...it was a deadly combo on my side though Orla began first...thollgate+althar+King Sanavaan (258)...well I cant believe Ive won with so many great players in the forum...Ithanks everyone for playing and giving me the opportunity to enjoy some great matches too...regards

Awesome games! The last one was just crazy. I was almost sweating with the intense battle it was! In the end, the game ultimately shows the power of Darkwater Syren (229) in that setting.
I've sent a couple of my world cup replays to regdoogie. (actually the first and last games).
Also, i want to thank Triforce for letting me repeat that 3rd as i got disconnected from psn right in the beggining of the game.
This was a great tournament and they were all excellent opponents!! Thank you EoJManager for providing such a great experience!

Actually, it kinda is.
I live in a place where internet services are quite limited. The maximum speed of my downloads goes to 50KB/s which is rather ridiculous. But its either that or no internet at all.
