Just got EoJ last week and found this site a couple of days ago, so I would just like to say hello to all of you. Excellent site and nice to see that people are still playing EoJ. Every now and then I have been considering buying EoJ but I never got around to it until now. Really good game, and it has a lot more depth than expected. It was the upcoming PSP version that got me interested in EoJ again. I will get it on the PSP as well, and it will be nice to play the story mode and learn some more about the background of the EoJ universe.
During my first week with the game I have just started to understand the game, and I also had to build a custom USB-powered 4 LED light solution cause I play mostly in the evening. Placed the light directly under the camera in order to avoid glare, and now it works really good playing when the rest of the room is dark. The play mat is lit like a football field at night. I can post a component list and wiring diagram if anyone is interested.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello and hope to play with some of you online sometime. I have seen on some other forums as well lately that still more new players are joining the EoJ community, just wish that Sony would support the game more.

Hey, it feels a bit like Sweden at the moment here in England. Welcome to the community. Lots of useful stuff posted here over the last 2 years and lots of crap as well! Enjoy EOJ! You can get some good deals on cards at the moment on ebay!

Hello from Canada! Welcome to the forums. I'm new myself and have only found this site about a month ago. I'm in the process of building a custom playfield made of ceramic tile. If you send me the specs on how you made your led lights I would be interested. Might look quite cool with the custom board!
Does anybody know if I have my friend airbrush a custom design of a character on EOJ on top of my playfield if it will affect the way the Eye reads the cards?
As a border I want some tiny dim lights built into the border of the playfield, the color of the elements. Would this affect the eye too? They won't be bright or give off much light, just to be noticeable playing when it is dark.

i doubt it will make a difference spraying a pattern on, as when i get new cards and scan them in using the eye i just put them on the carpet which has a pattern on,
oh let us have pics of your board

Ok, here is what I used for the LED lighting:
(1) Solderless breadboard
(1) Solderless breadboard jumper wire kit
(4) 5 mm High-Brightness White LEDs (2 x 2000mcd 90° and 2 x 12000mcd 35°)
(4) 100 Ohm 1/4-Watt Carbon Film Resistor
(1) USB-cable
All parts can be found at Radioshack.com or any other electronics store. As for Sweden I can recommend Kjell&Co.se and Upplyst.se.
You can use the Wizard at http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz to generate a wiring diagram, just enter the specification for the LEDs you use. Specification for the LEDs I used are as follows; 3.2V diode forward voltage and 20mA diode forward current.
USB gives us a source voltage of 5V. Cut a USB-cable and use the red and black wire to power your LEDs. Just cut of and isolate the others. Red is + and black is -.
And then just connect like this (or enter the values in the Wizard mentioned above to generate a more reader friendly diagram; 5V, 3.2V, 20mA and 4 LEDs):
+----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 100 ohms
+----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 100 ohms
+----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 100 ohms
+----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 100 ohms
I directed the 12000mcd 35° to the back row of the play mat and the 2000mcd 90° at the first row. Works well playing at night.
Then I attached the breadboard directly under the Playstation Eye. I also used a piece of paper to make a screen above the LEDs so that I don't get the light in my eyes. Just want the board to be lit. Whenever I find the time I will make a proper solution with everything soldered to a board, but for now a solderless solution will do.
There is a Youtube clip that inspired me to do this, just search for "eye of judgment light" and you will find it. Perhaps this direct link will work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsay7rGsXmY
