Here's what's going to happen. We have eight extra newbies signed up. I will hold them as back-up in case anyone from the original players bails. Once that has been resolved I will take everyone that is remaining and construct a second tournament.

I am allowing one week from today for teammates to contact one another. Teams should post here once they have contacted and are confident that both will be playing. If anyone wants to drop out of the tournament they need to do so now. Due to the team format it is not fair to your teammate if you drop out later. As such I will be issuing a penalty point to anyone that drops after this initial grace period.

The first round will end Monday, September 21st. I am allowing an extra week for teammates to exchange ideas and devise a strategy. However, if both teams agree then by all means you may start playing your matches.

Remember:

Every Newbie will play the opposing Veterans one time each. The Newbie goes first every time.

Every Newbie will also play the opposing Newbies two times each. Each player should have the chance to go first once.

Every Veteran will also play the opposing Veterans two times each. Each player should have the chance to go first once.

The fourth Newbie Tournament is now open for registration.

This time we are going back to the starter deck. Linked here for reference.

Sign-ups and Newbie Qualification
Please sign up in Tournaments Module. In the banner at the top of the page click "Tournaments", then "Tournament Registration", then "Newbie Tournament 4", and finally click the "Sign up" button. Direct link is here. Of course you may also post your interest here.

To qualify as a newbie you must have participated in at most one previous tournament - not counting tournaments currently in progress nor the previous Newbie Tournament.

Sign-ups will close either when there is a full roster of 8 newbies and 8 veterans or on September 1st. I will maintain a list of alternates just in case someone bails or is unresponsive.

I would be willing to start a second identical tournament in parallel if there is sufficient interest.

Tournament Format
One newbie and one veteran will be paired together to form a team. The intent is for the veteran to help the newbie discover the strategies for this deck. They will work together to defeat their opponents.

Every round, you will be matched up against two other teams.

Every Newbie will play the opposing Veterans one time each. The Newbie goes first every time. Wins by the Newbie are worth two points for their team. Wins by the Veteran are worth one point.

Every Newbie will also play the opposing Newbies two times each. Each player should have the chance to go first once. Each win is worth one point.

Every Veteran will also play the opposing Veterans two times each. Each player should have the chance to go first once. Each win is worth one point.

To summarize:

Every participant plays six matches during the round.

Each win by a Newbie over a Veteran is worth 2 points. All other wins are worth 1 point.

Each game not played is worth -1 point. (If it can be proven that the unplayed match was due to an unresponsive player then only that player will be penalized.)

Each team may earn a max of 14 points in each round.

Each round lasts two to three weeks. I would prefer they last two weeks - we'll see how it goes.

I will allow one week before the tournament starts for the teams to discuss strategies or to play practice games. Of course you may play your normal tournament matches if both teams agree.

There will be four rounds, with 2 teams being eliminated in each of the first three rounds. The final round will consist of two teams.

Prizes
Both players in the first place team will receive their choice of an ultra-rare from the prize vault. The UR selected must have at least two in stock in the vault and can be worth 4 credits at most. If you do not want the UR you may immediately trade it in for 3 donation credits.

The players on the second and third place teams will receive their choice of either one prize vault credit or a set of Commons or Uncommons from the vault (worth 2 credits).

Please sign me up as a newbie this time if possible. I'm on the ladder and in the infestation tournament but haven't officially started playing matches for it yet. If I don't qualify please just call me a vet again.

Well d-rizzle, looks like you're going to be tutoring all of us newbies. I hope that you're prepared to employ your Yoda skills multiple times and I hope you're also ready to face off against yourself on fourteen separate occasions as well! Sure doesn't hurt your chances of winning the grand prize, though. I'm pretty excited to see where this tournament will take us! And for the sake of crapping myself all over again - PSP EOJ!

Also, is everyone okay with rounds lasting two weeks? There are more matches to play this time compared to previous newbie tournaments. I could extend the rounds to be three weeks long, but I worry that would drag out the tournament too much.
